Alcides G.Torres is a passionate artist that developed his creativity at an early age. Born in 1976 in New York's Washington heights and raised in Inwood he heard the calling of art burning inside of him. It was there where he would begin to shape and mold his understanding of many methods that art itself was offering to him. He began to explore the wide-ranging scope encompassing many areas of the applied arts. Taking traditional classes in Fiorello H. La Guardia High School of music and art were he started to understand to draw the human figure, painting in various mediums in watercolor, acrylic, oils, printmaking, sculpture and art history. He was excited to learn his craft and have an appreciation for the materials he could use. To achieve the techniques he explored in relation to the knowledge of how artist in the past achieve their effects. As as a self taught artist he began to draw every day and record the world around him.
Influence by the works of 15th century European Renaissance masterpieces, Venetian masters, Baroque and Roccoco artists, Impressionism and more modern and contemporary art.. This exposure trained his eyes opened his mind to really see all the possibilities in what he could understand. The elements of art began to unfold, a philosophy for self improvement and tenacious attitude helped create the ambitious artist he is today. He has shown in several private galleries, group shows and art competitions to prove his worth and be recognized as such.
Art is and always will be therapeutic, a communicator, a teaching tool, and gateway that can reach new and exciting depths of creativity. Art created a saving and positive impact on his life. It has been his dream as a child and now as a proud and humble artist he continues to show his wide range of talented art pieces that speak for themselves through every stroke of his brush. Life is his canvas and art fills every blank part of his wondrous pieces.
Alcides is a Visual/Sales Manager at Jerry's New York Central and has been in the art materials business for over 25 years. He frequently gives demonstrations and teaches privately. He does commission work for various companies and individuals looking for his style of art. He works out of his home studio in The Bronx were he lives with his wife, son and his dog. He is a Gunpla Hobbyist a Djembe drummer and a homeschooler. He has his aspirations of learning a new craft of being a tattoo artist.
